What Article schema does

An Article schema generator produces Article (or its subtypes NewsArticle and BlogPosting) structured data in JSON-LD. This markup tells Google precisely who wrote a piece, who published it, when it was published and last updated, what its headline is, and which images represent it. Search engines use these signals to power enhanced article appearances in Google Search, the Top Stories carousel, Google News, and Google Discover, and to establish authorship and freshness — both important trust signals.

Unlike a visual rich result you can always see, Article markup often works behind the scenes: it feeds Google’s understanding of E-E-A-T (Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trust) by tying content to a named author and a real publisher, and it helps AI systems attribute and cite your work correctly.

Required vs. recommended properties

Google’s required properties for an article are:

Recommended (and produced by this tool when you fill them in): dateModified, publisher with an Organization name and an ImageObject logo, mainEntityOfPage pointing to the canonical URL, description, and the author’s profile url. Supplying a dateModified that genuinely reflects updates can help Google recognise refreshed content.

Rich-result eligibility & common mistakes

To qualify and avoid warnings: make sure the headline, dates, author and images in your markup match what is visible on the page; use absolute (not relative) image and logo URLs; provide dates in valid ISO 8601 with a timezone where possible; and do not inflate or fabricate the modified date. For news publishers, NewsArticle plus a valid logo (minimum 112x112px) and adherence to Google News policies improves Top Stories eligibility. Always confirm the output in the Rich Results Test and Schema Markup Validator, both linked in this tool.

How this generator works

Fill in the fields on the left and the Article JSON-LD assembles live on the right, with required-field validation and a one-click copy of the complete <script> tag. Everything runs in your browser, so unpublished drafts stay private. Combine Article markup with BreadcrumbList for the article’s navigation path and Organization markup on your homepage to strengthen publisher identity across the site.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Article schema? +
Article schema is Schema.org structured data (Article, NewsArticle or BlogPosting) that describes a news, blog, or editorial page — its headline, author, publisher, images and dates. It helps Google display enhanced article features in Search, Google News, and Discover.
Should I use Article, NewsArticle or BlogPosting? +
Use NewsArticle for journalistic news content, BlogPosting for blog posts, and the generic Article when neither fits. All three share the same core properties, so you can switch the type in this generator without re-entering data.
What are the required Article properties? +
Google requires headline, image, datePublished, and an author with a name. A publisher (with logo) and dateModified are strongly recommended. This generator marks the required fields with an asterisk and validates them live.
How long can the headline be? +
Keep the headline under 110 characters. Google may truncate or ignore longer headlines, and an overly long headline can disqualify the article from some enhanced features.
Do I need an image? +
Yes. Google requires at least one image and recommends multiple high-resolution images (1200px wide or more) in 16x9, 4x3, and 1x1 aspect ratios for the best presentation in Search and Discover.
Is the author a Person or Organization? +
Use a Person for a named individual writer (this generator does that by default) and add the author’s profile URL when available. Use an Organization author only when no individual byline exists.
